School of the year
CUP School of the year
In 2011, Cambridge University Press agreed to sponsor a prize for the ‘School of the Year’, to be selected by the UKLO committee. We are very grateful to CUP for their generous support – a prize consisting of £125 worth of CUP linguistics books. The criteria applied may vary slightly from year to year as we develop our policy, so the list below states the criteria applied each year.
2013: Adams’ Grammar School, Newport, Shropshire (lead teacher: Christine Crowe)
Citation: This school was selected because it had entered more pupils in 2013 than any other school – 351 pupils in all, which is a spectacular 44% of the total school. The entries covered all three levels. The numbers were particularly noteworthy because this was the school’s first year in UKLO.
2012: The Mary Erskine School, Edinburgh (lead teacher: Michael Chittleburgh)
Citation: This school was selected because it had entered more pupils in 2012 than any other school – 189 pupils in all, just over 25% of the senior school.
2011: All Saints RC School, York (lead teacher: Mary Piper)
- Citation: This school was selected because (among the regular schools which entered candidates at both Advanced and Foundation level) it had the largest number of candidates in the short list from which we selected the round 2 winners.
