Individual coaching
[Unfortunately, at present we’re not able to offer this service. We hope this is a temporary glitch, and that we’ll soon be able to repeat the offer.]
As an experiment starting in 2020, and arising out of the Covid crisis, we’re offering a new service to anyone who asks for it, whether competitors or teachers. If you want to get better at solving UKLO problems, and are willing to commit to regular (but not necessarily frequent) homework, we’ll assign you a coach who will work with you via email or some similar platform.
This service is available throughout the year, so if you want (say) a monthly session, you could have twelve sessions in twelve months; but you can start at any time (e.g. just after Round 1, as a preparation for Round 2) and stop when it suits you. But once you’ve set up an arrangement we expect you to honour it by doing the agreed homework.
Your coach will be a volunteer from among our previous winners – someone who has at least reached Round 2, and who may have been in one of the UK squads that we sent to the international events.
When you apply for coaching, please tell us what your experience of UKLO is, and what you’ve done already to get better. If you’re a teacher we’ll ask you which problems you’ve already tried, and with what success. If you’re a pupil, we’ll expect you to have taken part in at least one competition (at any level of difficulty), and to have tried at least three past problems on your own.
If the demand outstrips our resources, we’ll give priority to state-funded schools.
The operation will be coordinated by Harry Taylor, who was an international squad-member in 2015 and 2017. You can contact him via email.
